The right color combination of granite countertops and kitchen cabinets will make your kitchen beam with brilliance. Unfortunately, the wrong combination will give guests an underwhelming feeling when seeing your kitchen.
Obviously, that’s not what you’re going for. To nail that brilliance every time, we’ve put together these tips for matching granite to your cabinets!
Contrasting vs Complementary
Complementary colors go well together. Your countertops and cabinets will be a similar color, so you might be imagining something rather monochromatic, but that isn’t the idea here. A complementary color scheme uses colors that match or are cohesive to create a sophisticated look that is anything but flat.
Contrasting colors is a stronger aesthetic and a popular choice. For this look, you’ll choose granite and cabinet colors that go together, but contrast one another.
For example, the strongest contrast is to pair white cabinets with dark-colored granite. The stark difference between the two makes a bold statement that is both chic and modern.
Start With the Granite
If possible, start with the granite and try to match your cabinets to the granite instead of the other way around. Cabinets can be stained and painted to match precise colors but there can be slight color variance in pieces of granite because it is a natural product.
When choosing your cabinet color, try to match the cabinets to one of the colors in the granite. A perfect match will result in a kitchen that sings!
Start With the Cabinets
In cases where you already have cabinets and are replacing your countertops, you’ll be matching granite to your cabinets. But don’t worry, all is not lost!
Take a sample of your cabinets with you when you pick out your granite. Again, look through the swirls of color in the granite and look for a piece of granite with a color that matches your cabinets.
Look at it in Your Kitchen
Ask for a sample of the granite(s) you like to take home with you. The lighting in your kitchen is different than the lighting in the store and the granite will look different. Set the samples in your kitchen and give yourself a couple of days to see them in different lighting conditions.
