Spring Cleaning Your Kitchen
With Spring fastly approaching and the flowers starting to bloom doing indoor cleaning is always on our minds. There is nothing like having a fresh start going into a new season and that is exactly what spring cleaning does for us mentally and physically.
Spring cleaning with the family is always a task we handle around this time of year. Whether it be a garage, living room, or basement each task has different responsibilities at hand. When it comes to the kitchen making sure you handle the countertops, and appliances properly are important.
- Step One – Remove Surface Clutter
- Start by removing all of the surface clutter and unnecessary items from the countertops so you can get to the leftover grease, dust, and grime from the winter months.
This step would include completing the dishes in your sink as well. You will be utilizing the sink throughout this process so making sure that is empty to give you ample space to wash and clean is definitely important.

- Step Two – Disinfecting
- Disinfecting can start with just a simple microfiber cloth and whatever disinfecting solution you prefer. Depending on what type of countertop or materials you will be cleaning you may want to do some research prior to get the best results. Now might be the perfect time to apply either stain or seal the countertops in your home.
While performing this step it is important to not forget about the window seals and any vertical surface that may need to be whipped down.

- Step Three – Cabinets + Drawers
- This is another perfect time to start sorting through the items in the cabinets and figure out exactly what you want to keep versus what you don’t need and can be tossed. Areas like the cabinets, drawers, or cupboards tend to pick up a lot of dust that may not be visible to the eye due to the low lighting in most of these areas. While you are sorting and pulling the items out of your cabinet, begin to spray and degrease the cupboard tops while you are up there. If you have lining or wax paper, then this part will be a lot easier.
When adding all of the items back to their respective storage units, make sure you are placing them neatly. If anything is broken or damaged, decide if it is worth it to hold on to this item or not, as you may store it back at the top of the cabinet and forget about it. After finishing this step, you are over the hump and almost done with most bulk work. One of the next two steps will be cleaning appliances you probably do often already, and then the fifth step will be reorganizing.

- Step Four – Major Appliances
There are a lot of different methods that can be utilized when cleaning major appliances. Everything from your refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, and any conventional ovens you have all need to be cleaned. Knowing what and how to use the tools you have in your arsenal is important.
On the surface, these appliances may not seem as dirty as they are; once you begin scrubbing them, you will see just how neglected they are. The refrigerator is one area you want to give an extra amount of attention to during this process. Begin by throwing out the expired items and removing all of the items in your refrigerator. Once that portion is done, you can begin to soak and wipe out any drawers or items that need to be washed. You will be surprised by the grit, animal hair, and other items you find in the bottom and back of your fridge. Other appliances like dishwashers and the microwave are fairly straightforward to clean.
- Step Five – Flooring + Putting Items Back
- Whether you have tile, vinyl, hardwood, or another type of flooring, you want your floors to be as beautiful as they can be for this upcoming season; flooring may be a different animal, so make sure you do prior research.
The easiest and most satisfying part is when you take everything that you pulled out and put it back and just admire the beauty.
