The process of getting granite from deep in the ground onto your kitchen counters is a long, involved operation requiring an incredible amount of knowledge and skill.
First, geologists assist extraction companies in finding natural quarries all over the world. The largest granite quarry is actually located in North Carolina! In their search, these companies look for the most beautiful colors and patterns in order to choose the best slabs to extract.
The next step in the process is removing all the surrounding dirt. This part of the extraction can take up to a few months! Sometimes it’s even necessary to build brand new roads, bridges, and tunnels in order to remove all of the engulfing earth.
Once this is complete, the extraction team can finally start to work on removing the stone. Eventually, huge granite blocks are cut from the quarries, often weighing up to between 30,000 and 42,000 pounds!
Granite is a naturally occurring miracle – one of the most durable stones, second only to diamonds! It is absolutely worth every effort it takes to extract it, and we want to share it’s magic with you.
